OCEANVIEW2483: THE HOUSE SITE STORIES

What had become known as a contentious site is the 'ROUNDHOUSE SITE'. This site sits directly atop of the OCEANVIEW 'homestead site' that overlooks "40 miles of coastline from Cape Byron to Point Danger on the Tweed". It turns out that its geography, and the vantage point that it offers, carries layer upon layer of storytelling and only some are hinted at here. It is a 'place' where we might well contemplate the layers of histories that belong to this place – Bundjalung stories, colonial stories, the Terra Nullius myth, Big Scrub stories, the 'Greed is good age' ... and they go on, and on, an on. ... click on the image

This land is an ancient place and it exists within land that came to be known by 'settlers' as The Big Scrub that was decimated and cleared by colonists. It is an area that consists of an estimated 900 square kilometres of land made up subtropical rainforest. I acknowledge that the Bundjalung nation cared for this place and that their ongoing culture founded here is a integral part of a network of ongoing cultures that are the oldest on this planet.
